Stray Cats

What Can You Do If You Find A Stray Cat?

Cats are known as being cute and cuddly pets. They are also our friends and are loved by many families around the world. Sadly there are also many lost cats that have no home and will never feel love or compassion again. These stray cats are often starving or sick, and may not have the strength to survive in these conditions for long. Unfortunately many stray cats die every year with out ever knowing the love of a family again. There are many people that want to help these animals, but don?t know how.

If you happen to find a cat on the street but can't keep it yourself, then there are many other ways to get it sheltered. If the animal seems non-threatening and approachable, try and visually check to see if the cat has identification tags or a collar. If it does not seem friendly or there are no tags, you should call the local dog catcher, police, or even the ASPCA American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). They can provide shelter, food, and medication for these types of animals.

Or perhaps, you know an animal lover that need companionship? Or, maybe you have a friend or family member with a cat, who needs a friend? Maybe a relative who needs a special companion? If not just, take it to an animal shelter. But be sure to look for ones that are a no kill shelters. If there is none that you can find, any shelter is better than none.

One thing that you may not want to do is find a stray cat and bring it into your home, feed it, and care for it, and then decide that you don't want it and throw it back onto the street. If you do this, then the cat may expect that you will keep nurturing it and it will likely continue to visiting you on a regular basis. Even if you touch the cat it may recognize your scent and come back to your house. If you decide to bring the cat into your home, you must be committed to taking it into a shelter or keeping it.

By handling a stray cat, you are taking a huge risk by touching the animal when it can have diseases, or other problems that you may not now about. Taking in a stray cat can be a very dangerous thing. This can make your other pets sick and young children have a high risk of becoming sick as well. There are many dangers associated with stray cats, so be careful.
